No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
The Election Commission has ordered the deployment of 240 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) across West Bengal as part of the first phase of security arrangements for the 2026 Legislative Assembly elections, scheduled from March 1. These forces, including CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB units, will handle area domination, poll day duties, guarding EVMs and strong rooms, and securing counting centres. Each company will assign eight sections to polling-related tasks and one section as a Quick Reaction Team under company supervision. The state government is coordinating logistics, accommodation, and movement with the CRPF, under State Force Coordinator IG Sanjay Yadav, to ensure smooth electoral processes.
